Really nice place. No complaints at all. I had an Old Fashioned that was spot on. Some places make them terribly, but the bartenders here are really good. Prime Ribeye steak was fantastic. Cooked medium like I ordered it. And the menu … More

I initially visited Federal Grill as a guest at my friend's apartment building's holiday gathering. Since I was her plus one, everything was complimentary, and let me tell you, it was worth it. The place was bustling, so I decided to wait at the bar until my friend arrived.
They served various appetizers, including spinach dip, sticky ribs, short rib sliders, and Cajun chicken sliders. Spinach dip didn't quite do it for me, and I skipped the ribs because I don't eat pork. However, the sliders were a hit.
We asked one of the managers if the ribs on the table were pork, and he confirmed it without hesitation. He even brought us a plate of short ribs over mushroom risotto with sautéed spinach, and it was pure magic. The restaurant didn't skimp on the air conditioning either; it was so cold that I needed my jacket.
We had a dedicated server for our area who was attentive and recommended some dishes from the menu. When we asked for hot tea, she brought us some with lemon and honey. I got a craving for dessert and took her suggestion of trying the butter cake. It was decent but a bit too doughy inside for my taste.
In the end, we only had to pay for the dessert, which was fine by me. They offer complimentary valet parking, which is convenient. When I returned on my own, I tried the meatloaf, as per the waitress's recommendation, and it didn't disappoint. The crab cake was good, but I've had better Caesar salads.
One highlight was the complementary biscuits, served with hot jelly and whipped butter – those were amazing. I would highly recommend Federal Grill with a rating of 10 out of 10.
They have multiple locations, but I visited the Katy location, and I'll likely stick to that one and possibly check out the downtown location when it opens.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We visited Federal American Grill – Hedwig Village to celebrate a friend’s birthday during Houston Restaurant Weeks, and it was an unforgettable experience!
From the moment we arrived, the staff made everything smooth. Parking was easy with complimentary valet right in front, and there’s also a connected garage with a convenient back door entrance. The hostess team was warm and welcoming, and later they surprised our birthday guest with a sparkling bread pudding that lit up the whole table—such a thoughtful touch!
Our server, Denim, was outstanding. He provided excellent recommendations, kept our table laughing, and made sure our drinks and plates were always perfectly timed.
We ordered a variety of dishes to share:
Meatballs – juicy, flavorful, and a perfect start.
Bang Bang Shrimp – crispy, saucy, and full of flavor.
Brisket – melt-in-your-mouth tender with a smoky finish.
The Fire Burger – bold, juicy, and cooked exactly to order.
Every plate came out hot, fresh, and beautifully presented.
The drinks were just as impressive. The highlight was the Smoky Old Fashioned—not only was it smooth and well-balanced, but the dramatic presentation made it a must-try cocktail in Houston.
The energy inside the restaurant was lively yet comfortable, making it perfect for celebrations, date nights, or even just happy hour. Speaking of which, they have a fantastic Happy Hour Monday–Friday from 3–7 PM with a wide selection of drinks and food that we’ll definitely be back to try.
This was our first visit, but it definitely won’t be our last. We’ve officially made this one of our go-to spots in Houston. Between the atmosphere, the food, the drinks, and the top-tier service, Federal American Grill at Hedwig Village delivers on every level.
Highly recommend this location for anyone looking for a mix of great food, amazing cocktails, and a fun, welcoming vibe. We left happy, full, and already excited to return.

First time for us and we had a great experience. Our server was Sergio and he was awesome. My wife needed help choosing a wine and Sergio was an incredibly well-versed wine dude and steered her to a spot-on perfect wine. We split a Crab Cake for our appetizer and I’m not kidding this was the best crab cake available in North America. I’m a big Maryland-style crab cake guy and this crab cake blew them out of the water! I had the bone-in Ribeye and it was delicious.

When looking for a place to eat, I tend to go to independent restaurants and avoid chains. But there are a few chain restaurants that I like, both for their consistency and for overall quality. One of those is Federal Grill, so I was more than happy to visit the Federal Grill in Hedwig Village and give it a try.
This Federal grill location is right next to Interstate 10, which makes it easy to find and fast to get to. Once here, you can opt for either valet parking or self- parking. If you want to self-park, just head to the parking garage in back. The parking right in front of the restaurant is valet.
When you enter this restaurant, the first thing you will notice is the large whiskey bar and it is quite impressive. Whiskey lovers will enjoy carousing in the whiskey bar area and trying the different varieties of whiskey and bourbon. I would bet that many people who come here do so for that reason alone.
For me, my visit was for a good meal and I settled in on the Federal Burger and fries. I have tried other sandwiches in the past, at Federal Grill, and enjoyed them all so I was confident that this menu selection would meet my standards, which it easily did. They cooked it the way I like it and the added bacon made for a satisfying, high protein dinner.
I liked my experience at Federal Grill in Hedwig Village. I did notice that the bottles of beer were a little on the pricey side compared to that of other restaurants, and the same could be said of the wine and cocktails. But overall, this Federal Grill location is a good one and it’s a restaurant I recommend to all who love an all- American meal.

The restaurant has a pretty ambience. They have a bar area, high tables, booths, and outdoor dining area.
We started off with Truffle Fries, Bacon & Mushroom Risotto, and Kung Pow Calamari. Loved the truffle fries and I couldn’t stop eating them. Wasn’t sure about the bacon and mushroom risotto, as it was just a mushy dish. The calamari had a good spice to it, which was tasteful.
As for our mains, my family had the Chicken Fried Chicken. I had the Market Catch of the Day, which was the red fish with lobster and rice. The chicken fried chicken was fried perfectly and not dry. My entree was seasoned well. The rice was delicious and the fish was tender.
Our waiter, Ashton, was very polite and patient.
There is free parking at the parking garage behind the restaurant. Valet parking is also available, but at a cost of $6.

Nice place but the food was disappointing. I tried the pork belly, that was like boiled and didn't enjoy. I also tried the short rib, which had good taste but was overcooked to the point it felt mushy. Good service and bar. More

What a fantastic spot to have lunch! Everything was absolutely delicious and the whiskey selection here is one of the best in town. The servers were friendly and attentive and we all finished our plates ☺️ Definitely try out their Texas whiskeys - we had the Milam & Greene single barrel which was 💯

I finally made it to Federal American Grill! A friend of mine goes at least 3 times a week, so I was curious about the hype. We stopped in for drink, but I definitely want to go back for a meal. The decor is very pretty inside. It’s a nice place to gather with friends, very clean and the service is great. They have valet parking available. I would classify this place as upscale with a cozy setting. The food looks delicious, but we were on our way to another spot, so I was able to try anything. Love, love, LOVE the setting!

Came here for lunch with some friends for Houston restaurant week and it was pretty good! As our first course we got the salmon poke and the kung pao shrimp tacos. For our main dish we got the freedom burger and the blackened ahi tuna, everything was very good and I wouldn’t change anything about it! The restaurant itself was very nice and elegant and our service was great, our server was very observant and helped us with the questions we had and our waters were never empty! They also offer bottomless mimosas! Overall, I think this is a great place if you’re looking for somewhere to get lunch/brunch with your friends! :)
